Driver for Char Dham yatra in your own car — ₹1,799 per day, hill specialists only. Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri are the most demanding roads in India for a family car. What a Char Dham specialist driver actually does

• Plans the halts. Leaves Haridwar by 5 am to clear Devprayag before the pilgrim buses; stops at Guptkashi, not Sonprayag, so you get a room; times the Badrinath arrival before the evening aarti.
• Reads the road. Knows the slide zones near Sirobagarh, the one-way gates on the Joshimath stretch and the diversions after Gaurikund's parking. Turns back or waits when a stretch is unsafe.
• Handles the checkpoints. Yatra e-registration QR checks, green card, police barriers — he knows where and what they ask for.
• Protects the car. Engine braking on descents, no overheating on the Joshimath climb, tyre and brake checks each morning.
• Waits. While you trek from Gaurikund or take the helicopter from Phata, the driver stays with the car and meets you at the pickup point.

Day-wise Do Dham plan (Kedarnath + Badrinath) with own car

1. Day 1 — Dehradun / Haridwar → Devprayag → Rudraprayag → Guptkashi (200 km, 8 hrs). Night at Guptkashi or Phata.
2. Day 2 — Guptkashi → Sonprayag (30 km). Shuttle to Gaurikund, 16 km trek or pony/helicopter to Kedarnath. Night at Kedarnath or return to Sonprayag.
3. Day 3 — Return to Sonprayag → Ukhimath → Chopta → Gopeshwar → Joshimath (170 km, 7 hrs). Night at Joshimath / Pipalkoti.
4. Day 4 — Joshimath → Badrinath (45 km, 2 hrs). Darshan, Mana village. Night at Badrinath.
5. Day 5 — Badrinath → Rudraprayag → Rishikesh / Haridwar / Dehradun (300 km, 10 hrs).

Full Char Dham adds Yamunotri (Barkot base, Janki Chatti trek) and Gangotri (Uttarkashi base) at the start — 9 to 11 days in total. The driver adjusts the plan to gate timings and weather on the day.

Own car vs taxi for Char Dham

A taxi for a 5-day Do Dham costs ₹22,000–30,000. Your own car with our driver costs ₹8,995 in driver fare plus roughly ₹6,000 in fuel and ₹1,500 in allowances — and you travel in your own vehicle with your own luggage and comfort. For groups of 4–7 in an Innova or Fortuner the saving is even larger.

Before you leave — car checklist

• Brake pads and fluid, all four tyres plus spare, coolant, wipers.
• Puncture kit, tow rope, torch, basic tools; snow chains for Badrinath in October.
• Luggage for 5+ days rarely fits in the boot — a hand-welded steel roof carrier (Dehradun: STEELLY car carriers, fitted in 1–2 hrs) keeps the cabin free; strap the load and stay under the roof rating.
• Documents: RC, insurance, PUC, driving licence (ours), yatra e-registration printout.
• Tank full at Rudraprayag / Srinagar — pumps are sparse beyond Guptkashi and Joshimath.
